Wines with soul
About us
POTE 316 was born in the heart of Alentejo, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, like so many true stories: simple, unpretentious, and driven purely by passion. It was the year 2006 when two friends decided to turn their love for wine into something more tangible — a personal project, made with dedication and curiosity, without grand ambitions. The first harvest was symbolic: a single 225-liter barrel. But within that small production, there was already a clear identity — and above all, the desire to create something genuine.
As the years went by, the friends took different paths, but the project didn’t end. On the contrary: Mauro Brandão, a trained winemaker, continued to develop the wine with the same dedication and attention to detail that marked the beginning. What had started as a hobby slowly became a small brand, driven mainly by the enthusiastic reactions of those who tasted the wine: friends, family, acquaintances… and then friends of friends, and their friends in turn. What began as an intimate experience quickly started to grow.
Production gradually increased, always on a small scale, with a focus on quality rather than quantity. The POTE Vineyard, planted in 2013 on the banks of the Álamo stream in Reguengos de Monsaraz, became the birthplace of POTE Red — a wine with Alentejan character, vinified locally using estate-grown grapes. The vineyard, carefully tended with respect for nature's cycle and without the use of herbicides, is a fundamental part of the wine’s identity.
Today, POTE 316 is vinified in a winery equipped for small-scale production, with technology suited to a winemaking style where control, proximity, and careful decision-making at every stage ensure authentic, consistent, and high-quality wines. This human-scale approach is what makes the project so special: everything is done with time, discernment, and the pleasure of continuing something that began as a passion.
Over the years, the POTE family has grown. To the original red wine were added two new expressions:
the POTE White, made from grapes from Beira Interior, coming from vineyards located at 650 meters altitude, which give the wine freshness, minerality, and lightness;
and the POTE Superior, the most demanding and sophisticated interpretation of the project, with extended aging in second-year American oak barrels, which imparts depth, structure, and longevity.
Each POTE wine is, above all, an extension of this story. A story of dedication, natural evolution, respect for the land, and gratitude for the people who believed and continue to believe in this project.
POTE 316 is a wine with soul — born from friendship, shaped by time, and elevated by the passion to do it well. A commitment to the terroir and to authenticity.
